The 20-story luxury residences being built adjacent to
The Colonnade Hotel presented a myriad of logistical issues. The 35-foot-deep
excavation was bounded on three sides by public roadways, and on the
fourth by the access drive to the hotel garage. Pedestrian and driver
safety were prerequisites, as was maintaining continuous traffic flow
for the garage.
Beyond weekly strategy discussions with the contractor
and the hotel staff, KVA provided guidance during design to adjust the
configuration of the below-grade structure, assuring that construction
proceeded with minimal disruption to this busy section of downtown Boston.
